Abstract
User interaction with generative models through linear text-based prompting can be inefficient for complex tasks, such as tasks involving iterative refinement or the reuse of prior work. The disclosed technology describes a structured and dynamic prompting interface that can transform a user input area into an interactive authoring environment. This may be accomplished through a suite of functionalities, for example, prompt nesting for combining reusable modules, parametric prompting for creating interactive variables, inline prompt refinement for suggesting structural improvements, and prompt auto-completion for guiding users toward more complete queries. These functionalities can operate individually or in concert to facilitate the creation of structured and modifiable prompts, which may improve the alignment of generated outputs with user intent and reduce the manual effort associated with complex tasks.
