Abstract
Techniques are presented herein that support a method for prescriptively discovering optimal places on a resilient Ethernet protocol ring for which to break a loop on a per-virtual local area network (VLAN) basis. In an operational technology (OT) setting, traffic often stays within a ring and is peer-to-peer (P2P) in nature. Consequently, it is useful to break the loop in places that optimize performance and do not force P2P traffic to go the "long way" around a ring. The presented techniques encompass a method for discovering where the best place to break the loop is on a per-VLAN basis.
