Abstract
A system is proposed herein for live streaming packet captures from simulated network links in a distributed virtual lab to remote clients over encrypted Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) connections. A compute-side multiplexer assigns each packet capture (PCAP) stream a Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) and carries multiple concurrent captures through a shared encrypted transport to a controller-side demultiplexer. A session dispatcher then fans each capture to one or more subscribed clients through a single HTTPS-facing entry point. Link-type-aware header injection derives encapsulation metadata from the simulated link configuration and inserts corresponding PCAP header information so heterogeneous wired, serial, and wireless captures can be decoded correctly. From the same capture source, the system can provide a binary PCAP stream to a native desktop analyzer and decoded summary data to a web user interface (UI), enabling simultaneous heterogeneous clients without direct access to internal compute infrastructure. An alternative Hypertext Transfer Protocol version 3 (HTTP/3) option maps captures to independent QUIC transport units and can assign reliability by representation, such as reliable binary capture streams with best-effort datagram summaries, or reliable summaries with best-effort detailed capture delivery according to client intent.
