Abstract
The present disclosure relates to a method and a system for routing a structured query across a plurality of heterogeneous query execution engines. The present disclosure suggests receiving a query execution request including a structured query and parsing the query to generate a canonical representation of the query. The present disclosure also suggests determining an estimated execution cost based on at least scan characteristics associated with the query and a runtime estimation associated with execution of the query. Thereafter, the present disclosure suggests determining a policy compliance condition for each of the plurality of heterogeneous query execution engines based on at least one of an execution budget, a governance classification, an execution constraint, and a service-level requirement associated with the query. Subsequently, the present disclosure suggests selecting an execution engine based on the estimated execution cost and the service-level requirement. Further, the present disclosure suggests generating a routing decision identifying the selected execution engine and controlling execution of the query based on the routing decision. Finally, the present invention suggests obtaining an actual execution cost associated with execution of the query and reconciling the actual execution cost with the estimated execution cost to update a cost estimation model used for subsequent query routing.
