Abstract
Traditional digital rights management and visual watermarking fail to prevent video piracy through the analog hole or significantly degrade user viewing experiences. To address this, a client-side Temporal Pixel Modulator can be implemented within a video player's GPU rendering pipeline using WebGL fragment shaders. The shader dynamically modulates individual pixel luminance values at a high frequency above the human critical flicker fusion threshold, maintaining a flicker-free visual experience for legitimate viewers. However, when captured by digital sensors, this modulation can interact with camera shutter speeds and exposure intervals to induce temporal and spatial aliasing. This aliasing structurally corrupts unauthorized recordings with visible, moving zebra bands, blocking screen-recording piracy directly on the client side without requiring server-side video re-encoding.
