Abstract

Current approaches for applying color personalization to images captured by a camera are irreversible, require large amounts of storage, do not scale well across lighting conditions, and need intensive manual tuning. This disclosure describes a flexible, efficient, reversible, and scalable alternative approach to support revertible color personalization for images captured with a camera. The modular approach involves applying color personalization in a dedicated stage that is decoupled from and follows regular color processing operations. The color personalization module includes three primary components: a 3x3 matrix block for tone adjustments, a color lookup table (CLUT) block for specific personalization styles, and an optional tone mapping block for global and local contrast control. The versatile 3x3 matrix block can support either a standard transform for global processing or a multi-matrix transform for targeted semantic color adjustments. Inverse versions of the matrix, tone map, and CLUT can be embedded into the output image to enable recovering the original linear Red, Green, Blue (RGB) data, thereby enabling undoing the applied personalization and applying a new one.
