Abstract

This paper proposes a two-pouch zeolite molecular sieve system in Tyvek membrane pouch for use as an HDD (hard disk drive) component package that allows for synergistic VOC (volatile organic compounds) and moisture control. The first zeolite molecular sieve pouch functions mainly to adsorb VOCs in the enclosure, and to minimize the cross contamination to direct components. The second zeolite molecular sieve pouch functions mainly to adsorb moisture in the enclosure to suppress hydrolysis, and to minimize the secondary cross contamination to direct components. The second zeolite molecular sieve pouch also functions to adsorb polar VOCs not effectively trapped by the first molecular sieves. While the two-pouch zeolite molecular sieve system was developed primarily for the HDD industry, it can be used in any other application that has similar VOC and moisture control concerns.
