The present application relates to an improved process for the preparation of 3-ethyl- 4-methyl -2-oxo-N- (4-sulfamoyl phenethyl)-2,5-dihydro- 1H-pyrrole-1-carboxamide of formula-1 is the key intermediate of Glimepiride.
