Abstract

Calcium gluconate is an essential pharmaceutical and nutritional compound, widely employed as a calcium supplement and therapeutic agent. Conventional aqueous synthesis methods, while effective, often suffer from kinetic inefficiencies and purification challenges. Phase transfer catalysis (PTC) offers a promising alternative by enabling ionic substrates to cross phase boundaries, thereby enhancing reaction rates and selectivity. Building on CN110256234B, which demonstrates the use of selected quaternary ammonium salts, this work discloses an expanded spectrum of PTCs applicable to calcium gluconate synthesis. The improved process achieves higher efficiency, reproducibility, and product purity.
