Abstract
This publication describes methods and circuits for limiting current in unregulated Intermediate Bus Converters (IBCs). The technology addresses issues related to parallel operation of low-impedance converters, where impedance mismatches can lead to significant current imbalances and transitory current spikes. By utilizing a cycle-by-cycle input charge control mechanism, the system can detect over-current conditions and temporarily increase the switching frequency to clamp the input current. This approach effectively uses the resonant capacitor voltage, which represents the integral of the input current, to trigger switching events. The system may further incorporate frequency compensation to ensure consistent current regulation across varying switching frequencies and includes logic to manage the transition between fixed-frequency operation and charge-control operation.
