Abstract

In certain jurisdictions, online transactions with merchants or brokers in certain regulated sectors are subject to regulations that mandate that payments be completed using instruments previously registered by the user with the merchant. Unaware of such mandates, users often select bank accounts unregistered with the merchant, resulting in failed transactions and frustration. This disclosure describes techniques that enable only those transactions that are compliant with regulations requiring a match between the user’s bank account registered with the merchant and the user’s bank account registered with their payment app. A match between bank accounts registered with the merchant and the payment app results in the transaction being authorized to proceed. Mismatched accounts, e.g., accounts that are linked in the payment app but unregistered with the merchant, are proactively de-activated, such that users are prevented from initiating transactions that are destined to fail. The techniques make the payment experience reliable and predictable, thereby enhancing user experience.
