Abstract
The traditional method of mobile modem identification and authentication using USIM technology is not suitable for certain application scenarios. Especially industrial stakeholders prefer non-USIM authentication methods where credentials are not stored in the 5G System. A proposed solution involves altering message sequences to allow the UE to register with the 5G Network without providing any identifier. This makes UE provisioning more flexible and enables easier replacement of UEs. The approach utilizes existing messages and exchanges, only changing the provisioning of the SUPI. This advancement offers benefits without introducing backward compatibility issues. The solution also enhances privacy protection during network registration and improves resistance against tracking.
