Abstract

Browser tabs can be moved with relative ease from one window to another on the same device. However, moving tabs between devices is a multi-step operation that requires the navigation of multiple menus. Also, moving tabs from the tab management surface to other areas of the browser such as bookmarks, reading lists, or for sharing with other users, can be complicated, requiring multiple operations by the user. This disclosure describes techniques to streamline browser tab management by automatically surfacing dynamic drop targets during a tab drag-and-drop operation. The drop targets correspond to various contextually relevant locations or functional actions. Examples of drop targets include locations within the device (‘reading list,’ ‘bookmarks,’ etc.) and nearby devices (‘my smartphone,’ ‘my tablet,’ etc.).
