Abstract
Drilling muds are often designed to build a gel to prevent cuttings from sinking. The gelled mud requires a higher pressure drop to circulate, so there should be special procedures for flow rate control with respect to gel content. Both the rates of gel building and gel breaking significantly impact on these procedures. The evaluation of gel parameters ensures safety and enables optimization of performance.
