Abstract

Systems and techniques are proposed that provide a user with the ability to automatically schedule the watching of media content provided by multiple different media content providers on a computing device of the user based on the availability of the user as indicated by a calendar application running on a computing device of the user. The computing device may include but is not limited to a smart television (TV), a tablet computer, a smart phone, a laptop computer, or a mobile computing device. The computing device may be connected to a network and interfaced to the internet.

A user may interact with a TV application running on the computing device the user views or watches the media content on. The TV application may interface with media content providers to fetch media content for streaming to and viewing on the computing device by way of the network and the interface to the internet. In some implementations, the computing device the user watches the media content on may be the same as the computing device running the calendar application. In some implementations, the computing device the user watches the media content on may be different than the computing device running the calendar application. In some implementations, the user may watch the media content on, for example, a smart TV and the calendar application may be hosted on a server or computing device communicatively interfaced or coupled to the smart TV by way of a network.

The TV application may be included in a smart TV platform that provides a watch list feature to the user that includes recommended media content for viewing by the user based on, for example, user watch history and preferences. In some implementations, the smart TV platform may include a customized media content scheduler that interfaces with a calendar application for the user. The customized media content scheduler may further refine the watch list based on open or free times that are on the calendar of the user. The refining of the watch list by the customized media content scheduler may be considered a smart TV scheduler that, for each user, tailors or customizes media content for viewing by a user based on the lifestyle and availability of the user.

The user may interface with the smart TV scheduler included in the TV application to create a customized viewing experience for the user that seamlessly integrates and synchronizes with a calendar application for the user. The smart TV scheduler may provide users with a customized viewing experience for watching recommended media content that is based on intelligent scheduling, optimized pricing, and convenient reminders.
