Abstract
A common use case for a mobile or Internet-of-Things (IoT) device is capturing an image and transmitting the image over a wireless link. Capturing an image at a high resolution consumes power as does transmitting the image over a wireless link at a high speed. The power consumption for these activities can be problematic for small form-factor devices with a limited battery life. This disclosure describes techniques to maintain good image quality while keeping power consumption low during image capture and transmittal over a wireless link by multiplexing the transmittal of pixels in time, by transmitting an average of pixel values when variation across space is relatively low, and by transmitting when there is substantial change in pixel values across consecutive instants of time.
