Abstract
Content sharing platforms typically populate content feeds with media items that are determined to be currently relevant or “fresh.” This allows the content sharing platforms to prioritize newer content for users. However, content sharing platforms typically fail to consider the “hotness” or popularity of media items. This disclosure relates to populating a content feed using a hotness score. The hotness score can be used to indicate a media item’s popularity, engagement, and/or relevance. The hotness score can be used in addition to other scores, such as freshness scores, or instead of one or more of these scores.
