Abstract

Datacenter payloads include mission critical power electronics elements that require an uninterruptible power supply to maintain continuous operation of services. To ensure continuous power supply, complex solutions for power backup are used in datacenters. These solutions can be costly as specialized design and development of systems is usually required. Additionally, deploying such hardware needs a substantial amount of floor space. There are also substantial costs associated with inventory planning, supply chain maintenance, and datacenter operations. This disclosure describes a universal uninterrupted power supply (UPS) that can support and integrate different types of power sources and can provide uninterrupted power to both AC and DC payloads. The building blocks of the universal UPS system include power entry/exit connection modules, power input/output protection modules, power conversion modules, and energy storage modules. The universal UPS can supply backup power for payloads, coolant distribution units (CDU), networking hardware, etc. The universal UPS can bridge power flow from diversified sources to heterogeneous loads.
