Abstract

This disclosure describes techniques to purge coolant from coolant loops of data center rack assemblies, e.g., after rack assembly level testing and prior to transportation of the rack assemblies to deployment sites, after flushing of the rack assembly at a data center, servicing of a rack assembly, decommissioning of a rack assembly, etc. Per techniques of this disclosure, flow of compressed air is directed to individual coolant loops via tray level control valves to enable purging (draining) of coolant from the coolant loops. Valves and ports are provided to drain the common coolant supply and coolant return components included in the rack assembly. The valves are configured such that they can be controlled to limit flow, stop flow, and redirect flow to enable removal of residual coolant in the rack assembly. By enabling tray level coolant purging, compressed and/or dry air can be directed through specific coolant loops. This enables direct control of coolant purging, as well as more direct measurement of the quantity of coolant removed from each tray assembly.
