Abstract
Described herein are aluminum alloy products that are formable and usable to provide fire protection. The aluminum alloy products can include an aluminum alloy sheet and a formable protective layer comprising steel that is coupled to one side of the aluminum alloy sheet to provide fire protection. Using the aluminum alloy products to form a battery case can lower a weight of the battery case compared to traditional metals, such as steel, used to provide fire protection. The present disclosure provides a cost-effective alternative with fire protection and formability that avoids post-forming operations compared to traditional production methods of metal composites.
