Abstract

The address information of a user as shared with and stored by friends, family, etc. can become outdated and inaccurate when the user changes their address. This disclosure describes techniques that utilizes immutable locators to share mutable address information with a set of users, with a built-in access control mechanism. Instead of sharing physical addresses, a user shares a semantic address that links to their address. Semantics of the address remain unaltered as the user changes their physical address. Other users that are part of an access control list specified by the user can use the semantic address to obtain the user’s up-to-date physical address and fields therein. The techniques ensure that address information is updated and remains accurate and eliminates the need to update and re-share the address when a user changes their address.
