Abstract

Third party sellers and sub-partners can provide a range of benefits to primary sellers, such as lower operating costs, specialized expertise, and access to new markets. However, payment systems may not be set up to work with such hierarchies, e.g., may not be set up to calculate commissions that are owed to multiple partners. This disclosure describes payment systems with built-in support for a hierarchy of third party sellers and sub-partners. The payment systems allow sellers in a marketplace to automate billing and invoices, including for third party sellers and sub-partners, based on an item sold in the marketplace. Payments to be made to third party sellers and sub-partners can be automated based on rule sets that can be defined for specific products and/or services offered by a seller. Commissions can be set for vendors, affiliate links, and time-based validity intervals.
