Abstract

Challenges in digital content monetization can include ad-blockers and user fatigue, while certain distributed computing platforms may negatively impact device performance or use inefficient verification. This disclosure describes a framework for monetizing idle user device resources by executing background computational tasks. A hardware-conditioned scheduling engine can monitor device telemetry, such as power state and thermal levels, to initiate tasks during non-disruptive periods. For example, tasks can be initiated when a device, such as a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or wearable device, is charging and inactive. The system may also employ cryptographic proofs for efficient task verification. Users can accumulate standardized compute credits, which may be redeemed for digital goods, subscription offsets, or to access paywalled content, offering an alternative monetization model that can operate with a different impact on the user experience.
