Abstract
A dust-protective blank cover is proposed herein for an unpopulated modular chassis slot. An inward-extending tray or carrier positions a rear protective element over an exposed high-speed connector mating region while the cover closes the chassis opening. By limiting accumulation of dust, fibers, and other debris before a card is installed, the cover may reduce contact contamination and related impedance discontinuities, serializer/deserializer (SerDes) reflections, bit error rate (BER) degradation, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) loss, cyclic redundancy check (CRC) errors, packet loss, and link failure. The protective element can be adapted to different slot and connector arrangements.
