Abstract
Television services can deliver media to users over source channels, which can include cable, satellite, or internet-protocol channels. A source channel may broadcast media on a schedule common to all users of the channel. A digital video recorder (DVR) feature can allow users to schedule recordings of upcoming airings so that content is available for later playback. An airing can be a scheduled broadcast of a program on a source channel during a defined time window. When a user schedules a recording, a recording service can monitor the channel feed of the source channel during the airing. A channel feed can be a continuous stream of encoded media that a source channel transmits to a broadcast platform for distribution to user devices. The recording service can capture encoded media segments of the live stream, can join those segments into a continuous recording asset, and can store the recording asset in association with a recording entry of the account that scheduled the recording. A recording entry can be a data structure stored in a data structure associated with a DVR that maps an account’s recording request with a corresponding recording asset identifier so that playback of the recording entry retrieves the stored content.
