Abstract
Distributing applications for wearable devices such as smartglasses can involve the installation of dedicated software on companion devices such as smartphones. This installation creates friction for both users and developers. Machine-readable optical labels such as quick response (QR) codes are utilized to quickly access web-based applications. The QR code is captured by the smartglasses. The smartglasses determine an address such as a universal resource locator (URL) based on the QR code. The smartglasses transmit a request for content with the determined URL to the smartphone. The smartphone retrieves web-based content from a server and sends the content to the smartglasses. The smartglasses present the web-based content. The web-based content can be presented as an augmented reality experience. Rapid distribution and execution of interactive content are facilitated without the installation of dedicated software on the smartphone.
