Abstract
1 step isolation of bad pens via probability algo is a scalable solution to isolate bad pen for printers that share a common Vpp power to 2 or more pens via a simple firmware(FW) upgrade or FW upgrade with additional 2 simple passive component(s).
Low cost printers uses common Vpp(32V power to the pen) and Vdd(5-5.5V) for both pens, with no additional switch to isolate power to K(Black) and CMY(Cyan Magenta Yellow) pen
Thus when Vpp(32V) or Vdd short happens, ink short test is unable to isolate which pen is shorted, the printer needs to reject both pens.
This paper proposed a scalable solution to prevent having to replace both K and CMY pens even if only one of them is bad, through the use of several layers of isolation algos.
With optional HW change to improve the accuracy to 100%, if required, by adding 2 simple passive components in just one of the small boards.
