Abstract

When an audio and/or video recording of a scene is captured using multiple recording devices, synchronizing frames captured by the different devices is a challenge. While movie clappers and timecode generators are used for this purpose, these are expensive solutions that are not always available, and in the case of timecode generators, require compatible recording devices. This disclosure describes techniques that use devices such as a smartphone, tablet, etc., that are commonly available to generate audio and/or visual markers using a speaker and display (or camera flash) of the devices. The markers are captured by the different recording devices and are used to analytically synchronize video and audio streams captured by the different devices. The smart device essentially acts as a digital clapper to ensure that the recorded audio/video for each stream includes information that can be used for synchronization at a later stage.
