Abstract

A method is described for delivering map data to resource-constrained devices, such as smartwatches, operating on bandwidth-limited networks, for example, cellular or non-terrestrial networks. A user equipment (UE) can use sensors and contextual data to predict a user's trajectory and define an area of interest (AoI). The user equipment (UE) may send an area of interest (AoI) request, including its display characteristics, to a network. A network function can then fetch map data, perform server-side optimizations like tiling and layer selection, and computationally crop the data to a shape corresponding to the user equipment (UE) display before transmission. This approach may reduce data volume and user equipment (UE) power consumption, potentially extending battery life by providing a predictive, tailored data stream.
