Abstract

GCI‑v3.1 introduces a modular, multimodal acoustofluidic platform designed to investigate how rigid and elastic micro‑ and nano‑scale structures respond to controlled mechanical forces. The system integrates four independently testable physics modules—(1) inertial–Dean flow deformability sorting, (2) surface‑acoustic‑wave (SAW) boundary‑layer conditioning, (3) cavitation‑driven differential damage probability, and (4) adaptive harmonic energy localization—into a unified materials‑interaction research scaffold. Each module is validated through simulation‑ready parameters, dimensionless transport metrics, and fabrication‑ready microfluidic and acoustic hardware specifications.

The platform exploits measurable contrasts in Young’s modulus, acoustic impedance, inertial lift, and phonon‑coupling behavior to mechanically differentiate rigid particles from elastic ones without chemical reagents. A PDMS‑on‑glass spiral microchannel provides deformability‑dependent lateral migration; a LiNbO₃ SAW subsystem generates high‑shear nanolayers that suppress fouling; a controlled sub‑microbubble cavitation module enables probability‑based brittle‑failure studies; and a phased‑array acoustic engine performs frequency‑swept resonance mapping within heterogeneous soft‑matter phantoms.

GCI‑v3.1 is released as a CERN‑OHL‑P open hardware platform, providing complete fabrication tolerances, calibration procedures, control experiments, and a minimal‑viable‑prototype (MVP) pathway to ensure reproducibility across laboratories. The system is intended for materials science, microfluidics, acoustics, and soft‑matter physics research, enabling high‑resolution study of differential mechanical responses in complex particle populations. This disclosure positions the GCI IPON architecture as a modular, simulation‑aligned, and experimentally accessible framework for advancing multimodal mechanical discrimination technologies.
