Abstract
Abstract
This document describes the technical functionality of a novel design software named "SBO" (Steel Building Optimizer). SBO is a MATLAB-based software that optimizes both the weight and the total welding length of steel buildings while automatically verifying serviceability limits. The software employs a proprietary evolutionary algorithm—named "Gradual Evolution Algorithm (GEA)"—developed by the author, alongside the Genetic Algorithm (GA) in a secondary optimization role. Compared to conventional designs generated by ETABS, SBO reduces steel structure weight by 10–15% and welding length by 6–10%, while also checking drift limits, torsional irregularity, and member load-carrying capacity.
