Abstract

This disclosure describes techniques that bridge an external physical subscriber identity module (SIM) card to an electronic SIM (eSIM) device via an application-layer service acting in concert with customized telephony framework extensions. The techniques enable eSIM-only user equipment (UE) to interface seamlessly and transparently with physical SIM (pSIM) cards for testing, provisioning, and network authentication purposes. UE that lacks a pSIM receptacle can interface with, authenticate via, and be provisioned by an externally connected physical SIM card through the application-layer software bridging mechanism and standard peripheral hardware interfaces. The techniques obviate destructive hardware modifications, do not require altering proprietary baseband firmware, and maintain seamless compatibility with existing physical SIM-based testing infrastructure
