Abstract
This concept relates to a rough-bore flexible pipe of the described in API 17J (i.e. the type which includes a carcass layer), or to a hybrid type pipe where one or more armour layers are composite, or where a type of thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) or reinforced thermoplastic pipe (RTP) are adapted to include a carcass layer.
During the pipe completion activities both sacrificial extruded wear layer (05) (if present) and fluid barrier layer (04) are trimmed to a given length to expose the carcass (01). After the trimming process a barrier sleeve (03) may be inserted between the wear layer (05) and the barrier (04). A connector ring (02) is prepared to be inserted – this is a piece which is fitted to the carcass and is welded or otherwise connected to it to mechanically secure the carcass to the end fitting.
