Abstract
Active pens as PC accessories have been a tool to enhance productivity in office environments and in school class environments. This publication proposed a new method to ensure active pen attachment can be securely attached to notebook PC and tablet PC to avoid pen lost issues causing unpleasant user experience and productivity loss.
In modern active pen accessory attachments, active pens are magnetically attached to notebook PC and tablet PC, which are easily knocked off and missing. If magnet force of pen attachment increases, the pen accessory will be difficult to remove from system. If magnet force of pen attachment decreases, pen accessories will easily fall off and missing somewhere during transportation.
In this disclosure, a lock and unlock mechanism are proposed to securely lock active pen to system when users do not use pen during transportation. The lock and unlock mechanism utilized electromagnet effect to control overall pen attachment force based on different user scenarios. Electromagnet mechanism can prevent mechanical damage in system side and in pen side caused by mechanical structure interference. With default strong permanent magnet with coil in system side to form electromagnet modulation to control different level of pen attachment force.
