Abstract
We introduce a method for detecting powder accumulation on the print carriage cover in Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) 3D printing systems using an onboard RGB camera. The carriage path traverses the camera’s field of view during each layer printing cycle, enabling frame selection that clearly captures the carriage cover. This approach allows for a cover inspection after the top cover of the printer is closed, a critical moment when powder is most likely to fall and adhere to the carriage cover. The method enhances system reliability and print quality by enabling early detection of contamination without requiring additional sensors or manual inspection.
