Abstract

This submission proposes techniques to harvest energy in high-speed interconnects. To facilitate such energy harvesting, a via-trace-via loop can be placed in close vicinity of high-speed vias at the edge of a ball grid array (BGA) field of a printed circuit board (PCB) or close to an isolated differential pair via (e.g., transition vias) to harvest the energy in the rapidly changing electromagnetic (EM) fields using principles of Faraday's law. The harvested energy can be cascaded and boosted and can later be referenced to a pulse-width modulation (PWM) signal to create a power rail at the PCB level.
