Abstract

This disclosure presents a novel fully deployable rigid wing system designed for aeronautical applications, utilizing an innovative scissor mechanism for complete deployment and retraction. The wing, composed of multiple rigid segments split along the chord, employs a dual-motion approach involving translation towards the aircraft's center and rotation from a horizontal to a vertical position for retraction. The system ensures structural rigidity through a primary scissor mechanism, maintained by a minimal holding force, and a secondary scissor set with bars of slightly different lengths to enhance angular range. Deployment and retraction are efficiently controlled by manipulating the initial scissor pair, offering compact storage and robust aerodynamic performance. This design is applicable to drones, light aircraft, and hybrid air-ground vehicles, providing a versatile solution for space-constrained aeronautical environments.
