Abstract

This paper describes a compact projection system that consists of a front located projection configuration and 3 side located cyclically configured distributed projection configurations where virtual content will be projected onto 4 virtual image formation distances. The entire compact projection system will consists of a front located projection configuration and 3 side located cyclically configured distributed projection configurations. And in the entire compact projection system, there will be altogether one large convex lens stack, one front located large video display, 4 cyclically configured main beam splitter configurations, 12 small video displays and 8 secondary beam splitter configurations. The compact projection system, by utilizing the containing 4 projection configurations, will have the capability to project virtual content onto 4 image formation distances. And the compact projection system will provide the user of the compact projection system with the capability to select a desired projection configuration to project virtual content, with the corresponding image formation distance. In addition to that, the compact projection system can be utilized in dual configuration mode, one compact projection system per each eye of the user, as a virtual content viewing device.
