Abstract

This paper describes a power distribution system for a data center. The power distribution system includes a plurality of power distribution segments, such as bus ducts, dimensioned to deliver a specified maximum current for distributing power to server racks. The power distribution segments may be divided into one or more power zones, which can be activated and inactivated through a plurality of switches that interconnect the power zones. An optional control system can selectively actuate the switches to configure the segments into distinct power distribution configurations. Each configuration may accommodate a different power density requirement for the server racks, enabling adaptable power delivery. This approach supports efficient utilization of data center infrastructure over multiple server rack generations.
