Abstract
Digital wallets and payment applications support storing payment instrument information and using it to make payments for physical as well as virtual shopping. Many payment instruments are associated with perks that are delivered to the user upon satisfaction of certain criteria, e.g., spend amounts, spend types, etc. It is challenging for users to remember specifics of the currently active perks and to use appropriate instruments for individual purchases to maximize such perks. This disclosure describes techniques, implemented with specific user permission to access user data, to determine and recommend suitable payment methods to users at the point of purchase to maximize the benefits obtained from the transaction. Such determination is based on information about the perks and offers connected to individual payment instruments stored in a digital wallet application. The information can be specified manually by the user and/or can be obtained automatically, e.g., from a website or other information resource provided by the payment instrument provider.
