Abstract

This document describes techniques to integrate computing devices with personal style. While colored themes and user personalization are ubiquitous in mobile computing devices (e.g., smartphones, smart watches, fitness trackers, etc.), these options often do not consider real world styling such as the user’s attire and accessories. Mobile devices may be connected to a companion device with a camera, microphone, etc. By leveraging the device’s camera and artificial intelligence, the device can suggest device border colors, display themes, and other recommendations to integrate with the user’s style and enhance the user’s appearance. In some examples, the device may use a microphone to capture audio, such as music, in the user’s vicinity and dynamically adjust the border lighting in sync with the audio. A user may easily switch between using the camera or the microphone to capture the user’s environment. The user may choose to activate one or more styling assistance features (i.e. sync with audio) based on time of day, location, battery level, etc. To optimize user experience and conserve battery life, the technology incorporates adaptive power management capabilities. For example, the mobile device may revert to a default power-saving mode when not in active use. Further, the mobile device may be paired with a companion device that has a larger battery and may offload processing tasks to the companion device, preserving the battery life of the mobile device.
