Abstract
On a shipping vessel, where methane is used as fuel, the fuel is stored as liquid at cooled condition due to the properties of methane. The tank storing the fuel (methane) must be isolated to ensure that methane stays as a liquid. A general challenge with such tanks is that they cannot carry high pressures and due to heat transfer from surroundings to the tank, the methane temperature will begin to rise and boil off, which in terms will increase the pressure in the tank. The gas from this process is called “boil off gas” or just BOG.
