Abstract

This paper describes a composite projection system that utilizes 4 projection configurations to achieve a higher pixel dense central virtual content viewing area and at the same time that utilizes 4 projection configurations to achieve a moderately pixel dense surrounding virtual content viewing area. The entire composite projection system will consists of 4 composite projection configurations and 8 beam splitter configurations. And each composite projection configuration will contain 2 convex lens stacks, 2 light blocking covers and 2 video projection display areas. The composite projection system will have the capability to project a composite virtual content viewing area onto the field of view of the user. In this composite projection scenario, the projected virtual content viewing area will consists of 2 pixel area categories. One pixel area category will have a higher pixel density and will be utilized for the central portion of the virtual content viewing area. And in this scenario, the other pixel area category will have a moderate pixel density and will be utilized for the surrounding portion of the virtual content viewing area. The composite projection system can be utilized in the dual configuration mode, one composite projection system per each eye of the user, as a virtual content viewing device.
