Abstract
An apparatus and associated methods are described. In some implementations, an apparatus may include a first layer and a second layer that may be substantially parallel to and opposite the first layer. A third layer may be positioned between the first and second layers, wherein the third layer may be bonded to both the first and second layers. The third layer may comprise a porous material, which may contribute to the optical properties and mechanical stability of the apparatus. This configuration may be particularly useful in applications such as augmented reality headsets, where the apparatus may be part of a near-eye display system, providing an expanded field of view with minimal optical misalignment and scattering. The porous material within the third layer may serve to maintain total internal reflection while providing mechanical integrity and reducing the weight of the overall system.
