Abstract

Systems and techniques are proposed that provide an enhanced experience for a user when interacting with a television (TV) application running on a media player. The TV application may play media content (e.g., movies, television shows, short form videos, audio files, etc.) on a media player. The TV application may interface with media content providers to fetch media content for streaming to and viewing on the media player by way of the internet. The media player may be a computing device (e.g., a Smart TV, a tablet computer, a smart phone, a laptop computer, a mobile computing device) connected to a network and interfaced to the internet.

The TV application may provide targeted advertisements in real time while the user is watching the media content. The targeted advertisements may be directed towards an identified place and/or location in the currently playing media content. The user may interact with the targeted advertisements to gain more knowledge about the identified location and, in some cases, to plan travel to the identified location. The TV application may provide the targeted advertisements in real time to entice the user to plan travel to the identified location. For example, a user may watch a movie that is set in Paris. While watching the movie, the user may think about someday traveling to Paris. The TV application may provide targeted advertisements directed towards air travel to Paris, hotels in Paris, attractions in Paris, restaurants in Paris, etc. The user may plan a visit to Paris, interacting with the targeted advertisements to make reservations and other travel arrangements.
