Abstract

The current process of selecting and managing photos via digital galleries is cumbersome and inefficient because users must manually scroll through a large number of photos, assess each photo by opening it individually, and decide relevant actions. This process can detract from the enjoyment of viewing and sharing photos. This disclosure describes techniques for streamlining the selection and organization of multiple photos into a virtual pile by dragging and dropping them into an AI-powered dynamic UI element on screen. Generative AI is applied to the photos in the pile to automate various photo-related edits and tasks. Users can expand the pile to review, discard, enhance, and share the photos. With user permission, relevant metadata and contextual information can be used in this process. The AI-powered pile user interface can similarly enable selection and triage of other types of digital content such as documents, videos, audio files, notes, todos, etc. with the operation of the pile being customized to the types of selected objects. The pile UI can be implemented to support collaborators that edit content, generate creations (e.g., photo collage or album), etc. multiple users.
