Abstract

Digital payments can be initiated easily by scanning a QR code using a smartphone or other device. The user can provide their authentication information to the smartphone, e.g., a biometric, a password, a pattern, etc. to authenticate payment. However, with devices such as AR glasses, it is not possible to authenticate in this manner. This disclosure leverages physical markers on a QR code as authentication anchors. When a user wearing augmented reality glasses looks at a QR code, such anchors are recognized. The user can then use their eye gaze or a finger gesture to draw an authentication pattern with reference to the anchors. In this manner, user authentication is performed seamlessly with no changes required to the physical QR code.
