Abstract
Interstage sealing is a critical component of high-pressure refrigerant compressors that use radial impellers. Carbon seals and labyrinth seals used in the past were either prohibitively expensive or failed to provide adequate sealing performance. A proposed rotor design uses a single piece compressor wheel rotor with an integrated shaft, wheel, and a radial labyrinth seal that provides adequate sealing performance at a reasonable cost.
