Abstract
Designing a two-stage centrifugal compressor involves several challenges, particularly concerning thrust and clearances. Efficient thrust balancing is essential to prevent excessive wear on bearings and ensure stable operation while optimizing tip clearance is essential to avoid performance losses. The proposed solution of two stage back-to-face serial compressor wheel with wheels in same direction and integrated labyrinth improves the interstage design, reduces the pressure difference across the stages, and improves overall efficiency.
