Abstract

This disclosure describes a nose clip integrated with a nasal cannula that includes components that enable measurement of biological parameters. The nasal cannula and nose clip can together be utilized to perform measurements of breathing state and other biological parameters of the wearing user. The nasal clip includes a photoplethysmography (PPG) module with a light emitting diode (LED) that serves as an optical source. A photodiode (PD) is provided on the same side of the nasal clip as the LED to detect reflective PPG signals and on the opposite side of the nasal clip to detect transmissive PPG signals. A laser doppler flowmetry (LDF) module includes a near-infrared laser source. On the same side of the nasal clip as the laser source, a photodiode is provided to detect reflective LDF signals. On the opposite side of the nasal clip, a photodiode is provided to detect transmissive LDF signals. The photodiode for detection of transmissive LDF and the laser source are placed such that they form a small angle to avoid strong forward scattering.
